—FROM THE PUBLISHER—

When man is eager,
the gods join in

by Jacqueline “Jacqué” Scott
Look around.
Where is there happiness, cooperation and progress?
Get yourself there!

“Transition” is the September theme for Mountain Connection. How timely. The economy is forcing transitions left and right (political pun intended).

One transition I consciously made early in my life actually changed me then and now.

It occurred when, as a teenager, I rebelled against my father’s parental authority. Yes, I wrote about “torturing Dad” last month for the “kids and family” theme.

But it was the “transition” from anger to non-anger that was worth the whole conflict.

In a flash, all of a sudden, I realized I was tired of being angry. My rebellion was unsuccessful. So I stopped hating. I just let it go.

I needed to let go. It was killing me—not changing Dad or the circumstances. It was polluting my life—not his. It was tiring because I had to remember to be mad 24 hours a day. I had to wake up mad and go to bed mad and be mad during dinner and reading a book.

So I stopped. I breathed again. I relaxed again. I smiled again. I interacted. I was healed.

So…our nation and the world are in transition. Change is coming. Or change is here.

We can fight against it, struggle to hold onto the old—or let go. We can choose to acknowledge that things will never be the same again—and it’s OK. Breathe in new inspiration.

Just look around. What’s working? Where and how are people and businesses thriving? Where is there happiness, cooperation and progress? Get yourself there!

It’s possible to use the new realities to our and everyone’s healthy advantage.

Systemic change is not new. Throughout time people have spoken and written about transitions, proving that the only constant is change and the only value judgment is how we react to it. We are in control of our reaction. Fear? Or open heart?

• Martin Luther King, Jr.: “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”

• John C. Calhoun: “The interval between the decay of the old and the formation and the establishment of the new constitutes a period of transition which must always necessarily be one of uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism.”

• Bill Gates: “If you have enough information to make a decision, you’re too late.”

• William James: “A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.”

• Harry S Truman: “I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it’s hell.”

• Gandhi: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

• Dr. Robert Schuller: “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

Back to the mundane. Here’s a change that you can turn to your advantage. Mountain Connection will publish its first Health & Wellness guide: Relax. Be fit. Thrive. It’s a mini-magazine—a glossy, full color directory of health and wellness experts.

It deadlines Sept. 27. It publishes Nov. 1.

Call to advertise your health related business, 303-674-3701. It’s a good change.

• Aeschylus: “When a man is willing and eager, the gods join in.”
